Dear friends,

I received an email from a member of greektarot.gr who informed me of a forum entitled "Greek Tarot" and asked if I had anything to do with it. My answer was negative and when I checked the forum I saw pretty much what I expected: a makeshift community with oredictions shared among its memebrs. To be honest, this doesn't bother me. What bothers me is that this forum stole -the name of my website, as well as all its basic content: spreads, interpretations and even my article on my personal approach to Tarot!

When I set up Greektarot.gr I chose to allow open access to information to all users, registered or not, in good faith and without any consideration because I believe that knowledge should be accessible by all. Still, this is not the same as stealing someone's texts and publishing them in your forum, inviting people to take part (and without even mentioning where you found these texts.
I certainly contacted the administrators of that forum and asked them to delete all material coming from my site but not only did they not comply, but they didn't even bother to answer!

Well, what did I exprect from charlatans who are only interested in snatching people's money?

Today, with this text, I want to inform all members of this website that I am in no way related to any other webpage except for www.greektarot.gr

If you see my name anywhere else doing spreads or giving advice, it's a fake.

Thank you
Demetra Serafimidou

Strength and Justice - The difference in numbering
         Read more...Read more...

You may have noticed that the Strength and Justice cards hold different numbers in various Tarot decks. This could be a bit confusing for a novice Tarot reader. so let's look at the history of this confusing issue.

At first, the Tarot trumps didn't have any numbers at all. The first widely-used deck in Europe, the Marseilles Tarot, featured Justice at number 8 and Strength at number 11. But Arthur Waite who created the most popular deck of all times, the Rider-Waite deck, reversed this numbering in order to strike a balance between Tarot and astrology, as the Strength card corresponds to Leo and the Justice card corresponds to Libra. Later on, Alistair Crowley created his Thoth tarot and used the old numbering, even though he seems to agree with the astrological association of both cards.

So, which of these schools is correct? My opinion is all of them! You need to choose your own Tarot deck and go with its features. As with so many other things in Tarot, there's no right and wrong. You need to trust your deck and your intuition.  If you use numerology while reading the Tarot, the numbering could be important so make sure you choose a deck you like and trust. If not, use any numbering technique you like. The cards will give you an answer, no matter where they stand in the row of the Major Arcana.

Demetra Serafimidou - My personal approach to Tarot
Dear friends,
I feel the need to clarify some things for those visiting this website, for those who seek my professional advice and those who are interested in studying the Tarot using the interpretations and examples given in this website.

I use the Tarot as a tool for self-analysis, self-awareness and self-improvement. The divinatory dimensions of Tarot  are limited, for me, to two key principles: the first is summarized in that the answers to our problems lie deep in our souls and they just need a little help to come to the surface.

The second relates to the law of cause effect, and more specifically to the fact that our behavior, which is nothing but choice, leads to positive or negative results. In my opinion, there is no absolute and inescapable prediction. Nothing is written on stone and nothing can be predicted with the accuracy we would like sometimes. The future is, and hopefully will remain, unknown. This is what gives us the ability to make it as we desire. Think about it: if our future was preordained, why try for anything?

Reversed Cards
There has been a long debate on whether reversed cards should be used  in a Tarot reading or not and whether they really add to the readings. I personally use them but if you, like so many other people, feel uncomfortable with the reversals, feel free to ignore this practice. Still, if you decide to use reversed cards, here are three methods you can use to interpret them.

Choosing a significator
Choosing a significator is a central issue in Tarot reading, even though it's not always necessary to have one. Some spreads (or readers) require a significator, whereas some others don't. When you lay out a Celtic Cross for example, you may feel you want to place the significator card in position 1 so as to personalize or intensify the reading, but this is optional. Other spreads, like the Two-Significators spread, require the use of significator cards. I personally rarely use significators, unless I absolutely have to. I prefer to let the Tarot show me how a person feels or acts rather than predecide for myself, but this is a matter of personal choice.

Preparation and procedure for a Tarot reading
One of the most important steps in the procedure of reading the Tarot is the preparation you need to make before you sit down to read the cards. Unfortunately this step is neglected by many aspiring readers but it should never be ommited or overlooked.

Practically speaking, you may wonder about the space or room or table or colour of cloth you need to use. There are many styles of decoration for your space: you can choose something simple or more dramatic, it's a matter of taste. You may gather some personal objects that are filled with your energy, like crystals, jewels etc. Some flowers, candles or burning incense are also a good idea. As for the cloth, you may want to go classic with this and choose a piece of light blue or purple silk to lay your cards on. All of these are personal choices and absolutely optional. What you basically really need is an empty surface and silence.

What is really important and necessary is your mental preparation for reading the cards. Sit down calmly and relax. Close your eyes and take some deep breaths. Try to get rid of all thoughts and troubles. It is very important to remember that when you're too anxious or worried or sad, you can't read the cards right. The Tarot cards will function as a mirror and only show you the worst of your fears. Try to lift your spirit off all problems for a while. Disconnect the telephone and turn of the television. Try to empty your mind.
